Microsoft formally unveiled Bing, its new search service, and gave a demonstration at The Wall Street Journal’s D: All Things Digital tech conference.

“We needed a name that says this is all about search,” CEO Steve Ballmer said.

Will someone tell me WTF “Bing” has to do with search?????

A later post:

OK, while I still don’t get how Bing = Search from a naming perspective, I have been playing around with it and it isn’t bad at all. Simple, good results and pleasing to the eye.

I spoke to soon. Sorry to the huge monopolistic desktop-dominating mega software company on a whim.

mood of crowds

May 1st, 2009

I have really noticed this in particular over the past two days. Everyday traffic has a different vibe – sometimes it seems almost tranquil and fluid; other days just plain angry.

Last night I had cars trying to cut me off, one speeding up an alley slamming on brakes to miss me and arrived home to a dozen teenage boys in front of my house making a ton of noise (I was able to scare them off in true loud, military style yelling at them).

This morning, I notice things are moving really smooth. About halfway through my commute I begin to realize that every cyclist and runner going by is smiling and saying good morning.

So …. things go from crazy to mellow ?!?!?

Go figure.
