You’re right. I should have said WAS worth it.

No one should stand by while 2 – 3 million people are exterminated. If there is such a thing as a, “just war,” WWII is it.

Insofar as throwing shit on returning Vietnam soldiers, you have encapsulated my point. Nobody can condone such behavior – it is beyond offensive. But the Vietnam war itself was wrong.

By wrapping what happens to individual soldiers during the war into a rationale for the war, it makes the argument personal and hard to argue against. It makes me feel like some kind of traitor; but that’s why politician’s use it.

WWII “[MAY] have been worth it.” Wow…that statement says it all. War is obviously a horrific thing, but to say that is so foreign to a reasonable “thinking person.” Probably something those protestors who threw shit at the vietnam soldiers (boys) returning from war would think also.

I read through some of your writings and thought I’d say hello. I accompanied you through some of the later stage of your earlier first life – you know – the sex, drugs and rock ‘n role phase starting at the U of O. It’s nice to see you’re still intellectually and philosophically engaged with life and that you’re keeping fit on your bike.

Like you, I have reduced the scope of my existence, although not quite as intentionally as you seem to have done; mine is more a result of reversals of fortune. But, as history teaches, this is not uncommon. Even the great Babylonian king Nebuchadreezzar ended his days believing he was a beast, walking on all fours, and eating grass.

Anyway, hope all goes well for you as the days pass. Hit me back if you feel like it.

it’s freezing and clear up in the high sierra. it’s beautiful until i have to tend my wood pile. good exercise though.
